The Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Network Inc., with funding from
the Ministry of Education Literacy Office, is seeking a Family Literacy
Coordinator for a part-time term position. The successful applicant will
promote Aboriginal Family Literacy programming and services throughout Saskatchewan.
Expectations:
Working with the Executive Director, the Family Literacy Coordinator
will:
Review
current Family Literacy resources and programs available for Aboriginal
people.
Attend
training, committees, and events for Family Literacy.
Promote
Aboriginal Family Literacy programs and services to First Nations and
Métis communities.
Build a
network of Aboriginal people trained in Family Literacy.
Prepare reports
and documents as requested by the Executive Director and Board of
Directors.
Qualifications:
Education
and experience in Family Literacy programs, training, and approaches.
Understanding
and awareness of all the First Nations and Métis cultures of Saskatchewan.
Background
in some Aboriginal languages an asset.
Education
and or background in literacy, adult education, and community development
principles and theory are an asset.
Familiarity
with Aboriginal literacy as well as other literacy sectors such as
workplace and community literacy.
Experience
with workshop and/or program planning and facilitation.
Experience
with evaluation processes, plain language tools, and group facilitation
work.
Able to
travel and stay in communities for short periods of time.
Strong oral
and written communication skills.
Able to use
the computer, Microsoft Office, and Internet.
Criminal
records check.
Salary:
The position
will be 21 hours per week (3 days) from October 2008 – April 2009 with a
possibility of extension. Salary
will be based on education and experience.
