Aboriginal Inclusion in Employment OntarioCD
While the content of this CD was designed specifically for front-line service delivery agencies, it will be of value to anyone who wants to learn about Aboriginal culture and how to work effectively with Aboriginal people.
The rationale for developing this awareness building presentation was clear. In many areas of Ontario Aboriginal people live in communities that are isolated from the main stream. Individuals in this situation tend to be more aware of, and immersed in, their culture and traditions and are often wary of approaching an EO service delivery agency, especially if none of the front line staff are Aboriginal. In other parts of the province the Native population may appear to be more integrated into main stream culture, in fact EO staff may find it difficult to identify clients as being Aboriginal.
In both cases these clients share the same fundamental value system, learning styles, challenges, and needs. Service providers who understand this and know how to work with Aboriginal people will be in a better position to achieve positive, long-term outcomes for their clients, which is an outcome everyone within the EO service delivery network supports. Organizations with these skills are also much more likely to attract Aboriginal clients in need of their services. This presentation is designed to be viewed by any front line service staff, even it they are not currently working with Aboriginal clients.
The best option, of course, is to have staff take part in a facilitated training where questions can be asked and additional information can be shared. ONLC is prepared to provide this training for any group who requests it providing the host group is willing and able to provide the venue, any breaks or meals, and cover the travel costs for ONLC staff. ONLC will provide the personnel and cover costs related to the actual training. If you would like to book training for your staff, please feel free to contact the ONLC office any time.
